St. Timothy's preschool, established in 1975, is a non-profit social outreach program of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church. The school does not provide religious instruction or worship. It provides a loving and nurturing human environment for children ages three through five to learn to respect and care for themselves and others without regard to gender, race nationality, or religious or ethnic background.

The preschool is governed by an appointed Board of Directors comprised of both representatives of St. Timothy's Church and the local community. It is licensed by the State of Virginia and is a member of the Episcopal Schools Association.

You may contact the preschool for more information or to schedule a visit by calling 703-437-4767.

Curriculum

The St. Timothy's preschool curriculum includes reading readiness activities, science, art, mathematical concepts, nature, music, language arts, and sand and water play. The school has a well-equipped, fenced playground. The educational experience is enriched by films, field trips, and visits from local personnel. Parents are encouraged to contribute their own specialties and assist with field trips.

Staff

St. Timothy's teacher to student ratio is 1:6. The staff of Head Teachers is degreed, professional, and experienced. Assistant Teachers are professional and have experience working with children. All staff members are trained in First Aid and CPR.

Program

The daily program provides periods of time devoted to the best principles of both the traditional, self-contained, structured classroom and the "open classroom" concept which allows children to extend their interest by selecting work and play areas in the various activity rooms. Activities are planned and supervised, and encourage responsible, cooperative peer relationships.

Enrollment

Registration is held each year in February for the school year beginning the following September. A pre-registration period is granted to returning students, alumni families, and members of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church. New students are selected at random from all applications received. If necessary, the school maintains a waiting list.

Children applying for the three-year-old classes must be three by September 30 and be toiled trained. The Young 4s class is offered for children who reach their fourth birthday in the fall and early winter of the school year. Enrollment in the pre-kindergarten classes is limited to children four by September 30 and young five-year-olds.

A registration fee is required with each application, and the fee is non-refundable after acceptance.
